As we get closer to real summer weather, the crews are making solid progress to finish the Care Center additions. Outside you’ll notice the structural steel going up in the kitchen/entry way area, more siding going up on the Care Center additions and the concrete foundations are in for the hospital addition in the back.
The crews are busy on the exterior of the Care Center additions putting up siding and erecting structural steel in front to the new entryway. Inside the ceiling tiles are being installed, but if you notice in the below picture, quite a few are “custom cuts” to include light fixtures, sprinklers, smoke detectors, call lights, cameras and air vents. In the mechanical mezzanine, one of the new air handlers is up and running, providing air to the new Care Center additions and existing Care Center.
It’s not much yet, but a small sampling of siding was installed this past week and gives a glimpse into what the new exterior will look like. The concrete crews were busy pouring the footings for the hospital addition and the ironworkers have been setting steel for the new entryway. Crews continue to put in ceiling tiles in the hallways and resident rooms, the resident’s bathroom’s got their mirrors, and the mezzanine now has its’ permanent lighting. It’s always amazing to see how much low voltage cabling goes into a healthcare facility; nurse call, computers, media, fire alarms, wonder guards, etc.
Outside, the new kitchen/dining area and new entry area are taking shape as the footings and foundations have been poured. Inside the Care center additions, the rooms now have sinks. Progress continues inside the mezzanine; new shiny ductwork is being installed to make sure the building stays comfortable.
I see some doors are starting to be hung in the Care Center. Inside work continues on the two new additions, mezzanine and crews are jack hammering out parts of the old concrete floor in the transition are between the old Care Center and new areas.
The crews have started to side the “blue” additions. Should see the final look shortly. The crews are busy outside again putting in new foundations for the hospital addition. Inside the flooring tiles in the resident bathrooms are being installed.
The painting crews have been busy painting in the new Care Center addition, plumbers now have shower heads installed in the showers and baseboards in the residents rooms. The Administrator and office staff have an up close view of the earthwork crews starting their spring time excavation for the next phase; and you thought your job has distractions ??
Last week, Boldt’s Superintendent and foreman lead tours for the CCNSHCC staff and residents through parts of the new southwest Care Center addition to see the progress; a lot of final taping, mudding and sanding of the sheetrock. The staff was able to see a “pass-through” cabinet on the new rooms. The shiny new duct work in the mechanical mezzanine was uncovered.
We are now officially North Shore Health, as of April 1. Well to be official it is – Cook County Hospital District doing business as North Shore Health, but North Shore Health is much shorter! To celebrate the new logo and the new beginning, a group photo was taken to commemorate the moment near the building’s southeast addition.
