Well, we’re halfway thru winter and depending on what time you came outside this morning, you may or may not have seen your shadow. To be on the safe side, we should all plan on at least six more weeks of winter and hope for the best ! Inside the south Care Center addition, the sheetmetal crews are busy installing duct work and the electricians are running their receptacles and light switches.
Inside the south side Care Center, the crews continue to build out with metal studs. They had a walk through with the care teams in an early mock-up of a resident room to see where the resident’s bed will go (mock-up was a construction job site box) and the future shower, sink and toilets. On the north side, crews were setting the wooden roof trusses. Where one of the old boilers was, a new structural steel mezzanine is in place where the transformers sit with conduits and wiring below in a crawl space.
The Care Center team and residents have been having some fun with the temporary walls and column posts by turning them into art walls. The care team has put their heights and names on one post, hand prints with names on another and then the residents have put some nice butterflies on the project update wall.
Inside the new south Care Center addition, Peterson Sheet Metal is busy setting hangers and duct work, Boldt crews are putting up metal studs and pouring the concrete for the bathroom floors. On the north Care Center, crews are setting exterior wall studs. Holden / Agate Electric is hooking up the generator and the new water heaters are up and running.
With the colder weather, the exterior crews are bundled up and putting up shingles on the south side Care Center addition, putting up metal studs on the north side Care Center addition and working on the Care Center’s roof and inside to place steel columns and beams for the new mezzanine. Inside it is warm and toasty thanks to the three new boilers. I understand CCNSHCC’s Finance Director, Vera, got to bundle up for a tour.
Hopefully everyone one had a great New Year’s and is keeping their resolutions; ours would include being safe, healthy and getting the shingles up on the south side Care Center Addition. Last week, the crews continued to put up roof trusses, roof sheathing and insulation. The shingles showed up on site. Inside the crews continue work in the boiler room and I understand the CCNSHCC employees are having some fun with Boldt Superintendent Mike Knudsen…….
December 22nd officially marks the First Day of Winter, at least according to the calendar and on-site we of course have snow and ice. Even with the inclement weather, crews continue to work safely and show progress. On the south Care Center addition, you can see the Densglass insulation going up on the exterior walls and the roof is being sheathed. Inside, the mechanical contractor says the water heaters and boilers were turned on.
What’s with the blue and green pipes? In case you’ve been wondering why the mechanical room pictures look a bit like a scene form Wisconsin Dells with the brightly colored pipes, they are Polypropylene pressure pipes; better flow and corrosion resistant versus their cast iron counterparts.
Wishing everyone a safe and Merry Christmas !
The crews set their first structural steel at the Care Center. We continue to set the wooden roof trusses. Other activities include sewer utilities, work in the mechanical room – new boilers should be up in running just in time for the colder weather, and pouring the concrete slab in the south Care Center addition.
As with most construction projects, progress seems very slow at first, as everything is at or below ground. But once the actual building addition starts to be erected, it looks like real progress and at a much faster pace. The crews put up their first wall sections and roof trusses on the new Care Center addition.
